Comments About Me:
Dependable, honest, Booze & Drug free, valid passport, and low key. I am meticulous in my daily preparations, I am all about the show 24-7 while on tour.

I take pride in my organization, communication, and problem solving skills. I can trouble shoot a tube failure issue in your amp, make the bus wireless work again, or resolve a contractual venue issue. I can and will do almost anything to make the tour run efficient and profitable.

Although I have several developed skill sets, I prefer to be in Guitar World, working 1 on 1 with my artist. My luthier and backline skills are top notch, and I get satisfaction from enabling my artist to perform at his/her best every night.

I do my set ups for the players satisfaction, then I measure and note them, I use radius gauges in my initial set ups, and conform the bridge radius to match the neck radius. I strive for playability and clean notes. I am also conscious about intonation stability, sustain, and energy transfer, so I endorse and recommend Tone Pro replacement bridges and tail stops for Tune-O-Matic set ups.

During my initial set up of an instrument, I make sure the nut and saddles are cut and shaped properly for the string gauge in use. I make sure to remove all sharp edges and to reduce friction points.

My daily routine as a Guitar/Bass Tech;
I perform a complete inspection of all the instruments/gear under my responsibility.
Check/set relief per player spec/check fret buzz
clean frets and fretboard
tighten all screws, hex nuts, end pins, etc.
test and clean all pots, jacks and switches
check bridge and nut for burrs, or other signs of wear. Ensure string passes freely.
Check action settings.
Check pickup height, (use radius gauge to adjust poll pieces when able, to match the radius settings)
clean / polish
replace strings daily.
apply nut sauce (saddles too).
I use a simple 1 over 2 under lock.
I stretch and seat the strings thoroughly. (these steps insure tuning stability).
Tune as desired.
Intonation

With my amps, mics, effects, etc... I try to be just as meticulous. I tighten and bench test everything. I clean all connections daily. I ohm all cables , test effects. On occasion I use a communications analyzer and look at all my RF carriers and periodically test frequency, power, sinad, sensitivity, selectivity, etc... I always check my ranges in each venue. If my artist is using IEM, I help get him dialed in, replace batteries, etc... I clean my artists mic, check for shock hazard, wedge set up, focus, etc...

With tube amps, because line voltage changes from venue to venue, I like to check my bias daily. I start by inspecting and making sure the tubes are properly seated. I bias the tubes based on how the player wants his rig to sound, then I check each show for that VDC setting. Occasionally, I temp prob the tubes, test pre amp gain, and check for crossover distortion. I periodically clean all pots and switches here too.

I also set up all floating bridge types and know how to level the bridge and balance out the string vs. spring tension. I use the key to intonate Floyd Rose bridges.

I prefer to have a back up instrument for each tuning, use effects loop when able, and a splitter feeding a duel amp configuration, or I welcome bigger more complex rigs, I like the challenge of keeping it running at its peak. Then its ensuring the instruments are in tune and clean at curtain, hitting my cues, and meeting the talents stage needs during the show run. Then its wipe everything down and pack it up. I make sure my consumable and spare parts inventories are up to par and I interface with my artists endorsers as needed to handle any replacement or restocking issues.

I love working on tone and system development with my artist prior to a tour, then I plan a daily routine and implement it.

These are just some of the things I believe necessary to enable a flawless performance and a calm environment for the creative process to flourish.
