Dream Street in OB is still using the same AB amps they've had for 15+ years. While they are a reliable power source, they do take consistent maintenance to ensure you're getting as close to the same dynamic range and output day to day. Everytime ...

Hey Jem! Thanks for the note. I've been in to production my whole life. Started playing drums at 3, then bass and piano, finally guitar, mando and dare I say an interest in violin. Playing in bands developed into mixing as it does with alot of us. Most of my credits came over a 4-5 year period while I worked for a local/regional production company, ultimately becoming the company's A1 until I quit a few years back to strictly go freelance. Though my time with the prod. company was very lucrative in that I made great contacts ultimately leading to new jobs. Like alot of us, those jobs eventually run out or end which means looking for the next thing. I've been lucky, the past 2 years I've work independently for Bowfire (www.bowfire.com) and remain their Mon Eng/RF Tech. Honestly, the most challenging gig I've ever had. 15 musicians, over 50 inputs, 20 wireless omni mics, wedges and in-ears, plus playback I run from my laptop during the show. Quite a feat but the best group of people I've ever worked for. Like you, I'm always searching for gigs but have been able to pick and choose at this point. Hope all goes well for you!

Definitely a good question that has yet to be answered for me. There's no question I think it is worth it for the knowledge that they teach. I would have never gone this in depth if I was learning on my own. As for the future, fortunately, I won't have loans to pay back and just hope that I make the right connections for jobs.

Comments About Me:
I have been involved with pro audio and sound for over 18 years and have my Degree in Recording Arts and Live Sound Reinforcement (received 6/2000) from Mira Costa College in Oceanside, CA (#1 Rec./Sound program in the state). I have hundreds of good working relationships with SD and OC area bands/ artists. I am ProTools Certified and have been using it since V-3.2 (now 8.1). I am currently looking for a full-time touring gig with an established touring and/or record company. I am a calm and cool character that takes a lot of pride in completing a set goal. I am rarely seen without a smile and I love to joke and laugh; I've found this really helps ease the tension when everyone is stressing and rushing to get the mission completed. I have been playing guitar and singing for 20 years and I love almost all music, and working in this industry is my passion. I believe there is nothing I can't do, just challenges I haven't had the opportunity to achieve yet!

WTF does it take sometimes?

OK, so I was out of the loop for a year, but I can not believe there isn't someone out there (THAT PAY$) that needs a great equipment tech or engineer! I must've put out ump-teen resumes and personal letters to prospective employers and artists and got 1 reply who said, "sorry, we already found someone..." I know there are tours going right now, and more planned for the fall and winter, but I have never had a harder time just getting in touch with people!!! I'm starting to ask myself if this sit… Continue

Where's the beef?

Hi ya'll scallywags and road warriors! Greeting from San Diego, where the shows are 1/2 the size as anywhere else in the entire US! I have been like many of you, I'm sure: sending out resumes and references, letters of intent and kind words in hope of landing the ever-elusive long touring gig... I have spoken with many local "gurus" and even they have said it's a tough world out there right now, with smaller tours, not nearly as many festivals, 3/4 the pay for the same job 2 years ago, etc. So I… Continue

typically the band pays the backline techs unless it's a bigger tour where they hire out a company...but typically it's the band that pays the crew ultimately it's the band/management that pays the crew anyways, even if they're getting their chec...
