looking for some feedback on a company call ab amps in roseville ca.
i am building a small pa for a small tour in ireland and was trawling the net looking for a couple of three way amps for use with pa. found this company called ab amps in roseville ca. and am interested in buying some equipment from them.
i was wondering does anyone outhere know much about ab amps or who they custom make amps for (see website
www.abamps.com) and how good the amps are. I cannot find any info in ireland on them and wouild like to know a least something regarging them before i buy anything , although i do recoginise their logo i cannot place it.

any feedback or advice on this would be appreciated or even reconmendatons on other companies would be appreciated

I've used these amps before without any issues - small scale gig (5 x ab amps)

I believe there's a supplier in Liverpool (UK) which would ship to Ireland at low cost. I will post the details later for you.

We had an AB amp for ref mon to power 4311 JBLs in studio. For pre recorded material itworked ok, but I wouldn't us it in a live gig the power supply lacks the slew rate. Try to find some used Crown MAs they are worth the weight to carry.

I have used some AB amps in the past. They seemed OK. I suggest you check out Face Audio. These guys just won the Live Sound Mag/Pro Sound Web users choice award for best in class amp without DSP beating out Crest, Lab Gruppen, and Crown.... Any way, i have been using a few of their amps and am overly impressed. They happen to have a really solid 4 channel amp that may work out for you. www.faceaudio.com

thanks jem , have ordered 5 ab amps ,will be using them on a small touring system in ireland so will have to ensure they go into a good solid rack system , hopefully i wont have too many ghosts

Dream Street in OB is still using the same AB amps they've had for 15+ years. While they are a reliable power source, they do take consistent maintenance to ensure you're getting as close to the same dynamic range and output day to day. Everytime I used them before I first did a clean-out on it, there was a ghost in the machine...
Good solid, fairly noise free, amps.

I used them ia an "A" system in 1980 and they were very clean and reliable.(they had a really functional and compact cooling system I remember) We had 30 of them in the system for FOH. Can't say anything past that. I think they started making them oversea's and that's the last I've heard.

i have used some AB amps on small gigs for monitor mixes, and front fills. Not sure if i would ever use them on anything if i didnt have to. We had a lot of issues with them, and they were always being repaired

I've seen these amps used in perm install work for paging and house systems. Can't recall ever seeing on the road. I've learned through painfull experience that with a vital componant such as your amp racks, best to go with tried and true. I've been a fan of Crown and QSC. Easy to find dealers and parts in most parts of the world. Cheers.
